No. 8 Skyhawks defeat Mercyhurst 76-43 in North Star Invitational

Garcia leads Fort Lewis with 15 points

Box Score

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — No. 8 Fort Lewis (3-0 overall) defeated Mercyhurst (0-4) 76-43 at the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational tonight at the Patty Center on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

"It was an ugly game, but obviously the result was what you're looking for," said sixth-year FLC head coach Mark Kellogg. "Both teams missed a lot of shots. We just weren't sharp."

The Skyhawks shot a respectable 48 percent from the field, but struggled from long range (27 percent) and the charity stripe (60 percent).

The trademark Skyhawk defensive was effective, though. "We did a good job defensively and forced 31 turnovers," said Kellogg.

Katerina Garcia came off the bench to lead the way with 15 points as all 11 Skyhawks scored in the game. Dana Schreibvogel, who was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, notched her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were Mary Rose Paiz (10 points, eight rebounds), Abby Jackson (10 points, five steals) and Andrea Owens (10 points, five steals).

The Skyhawks face Dominican (0-3) at 7:15 p.m. (MST) tomorrow and Alaska Fairbanks (0-3) at 9:30 p.m. (MST) Saturday at the North Star Invitational.
