Box Score

DURANGO, Colo. — No. 3 Fort Lewis (9-0 overall, 4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 21-2 lead in the first 6:12 and led by as many as 26 in the first half en route to a 67-48 victory over Mesa State (6-3, 3-2) in women's basketball action tonight at Whalen Gymnasium.

Abby Jackson scored 11 points and connected on three three-pointers during FLC's initial spurt that put the game out of reach as fans were still piling into Whalen Gymnasium. Jackson finished with a team-high 20 points, going 5-of-8 from long distance. She also chipped in three steals, three assists and three rebounds as the Skyhawks extended their home winning streak to 36 games, dating back to a 71-53 loss to Western State — tomorrow night's opponent — on Feb. 23, 2008.

Dana Schreibvogel and Jenna Santistevan each scored 11 points for FLC, while Mary Rose Paiz matched a career high with 13 rebounds.

The Skyhawks forced 31 turnovers — 20 of which came in the first half as FLC took a 39-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. The stingy 'Hawks recorded 17 steals and three blocks while limiting the Mavs to an icy .356 from the field (16 of 45) and .091 from behind the arc (one of 11).

The normally red-hot Skyhawks did struggle from the field after the first six minutes, shooting just .411 from the field (23 of 56) and .333 from long range (six of 18) during the game.

The Skyhawks did struggle offensively for the latter half of the second frame, going nearly eight-and-a-half minutes without a field goal. Andrea Owens' steal and fastbreak layup with 9:09 remaining put FLC ahead by a 21-point margin, 61-40. The 'Hawks didn't record another field goal until Ashley Kuchar's three-point bomb with 48 ticks left on the clock put them ahead 67-48.

The Mavs were led by Kelsey Sigl's 20 points and eight rebounds. Katrina Selsor chipped in 13 points.

Fort Lewis wraps its three-game homestand at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow night against Western State (5-4, 3-2) in Whalen Gymnasium. The Mountaineers lost 62-54 at Adams State tonight.
