Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo. — Dana Schreibvogel and Mary Rose Paiz each recorded double-doubles as No. 3 Fort Lewis College (7-0 overall, 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) defeated their arch-rivals, Colorado State University-Pueblo (3-2, 1-1) 82-53 tonight at Massari Arena.

Schreibvogel scored 28 points for the second game in a row, matching her career high. She added 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the young season. The junior forward went 12-of-16 from the field.

Paiz added 13 rebounds and 11 points for her second double-double in as many nights.

"They're rebounding, they're getting baskets, they're playing with a ton of confidence," sixth-year head coach Mark Kellogg said of his dynamic duo. "[When you do that] then you can just relax and play the game. When you let the game come to you and you have the ability like they do, then the results will come."

The game was knotted at 28-28 at intermission. With the score 46-44 in FLC's favor midway through the second half, the Skyhawks closed the game on a 36-9 run.

"We actually felt in the second half that if we finished our shots we'd be OK," said Kellogg, who added that he wasn't unhappy with the first half effort. He just said shots weren't falling.

He credited three reserve players — Katerina Garcia, Andrea Owens and Stephanie Beeman — with spurring the second half success. The trio combined for 24 points.

The Skyhawks owned a huge advantage in shooting. FLC shot .508 from the field (31 of 61), an uncharacteristically low .231 from long distance (three of 13) and a torrid .810 from the line (17 of 21). The ThunderWolves, though, went just .321 from the field (18 of 56), .100 from behind the arc (two of 20) and .682 from the charity stripe (15 of 22).

Fort Lewis outrebounded CSU-Pueblo 45-30. The ThunderWolves committed 17 turnovers, while FLC had 16.

"We felt we could have a very good rebounding night against them," said Kellogg. "We also took care of the ball better than we have in a long time. We battled enough defensively to keep it close [in the first half]."

The Skyhawks return home for a 5:30 p.m. tilt against RMAC preseason favorite Adams State (6-2, 1-1) next Saturday.
