February 15, 2010.  Las Vegas, NV. - The Fort Lewis College team didn't walk away empty handed like many people do when they leave Las Vegas, NV. The Skyhawks, who just wrapped up the five game Desert Stinger Tournament in Vegas, went 1-4 but upset the #4 Dixie State Red Storm in the second day of play 4-2. The Skyhawks are now 1-4 overall and 0-0 in conference.

After losing their season openers to Hawaii-Hilo and St. Mary's, the Skyhawks came back Saturday and split their games. They lost their first game against University of Mary 1-3. Kassie Haubert led the Hawks' with one hit and one RBI. Stephanie Janes pitched 7 innings in the loss but recorded 7 strikeouts and only 2 runs.

The second game on Saturday was highlight of the weekend as the Fort beat nationally ranked Dixie St. 4-2. Jordan Willis drove in two runs on one hit, Brooke Bails drove in one run on a sacrifice hit and the fourth run came on an error for the Red Storm. Amanda Willmon, Chelena Coulston, Kayla Bruner and Jayme Fuller crossed the plate for the Hawks'. Fuller also received the win, pitching 7 innings and giving up only two runs on four hits.

On Sunday, FLC faced off against a talented St. Edwards team for the last game of the tourney and exhaustion set in for the Skyhawks as they fell to the Hilltoppers 6-0. Fort Lewis struck out seven times and only recorded one hit from Stephanie Janes. Meanwhile, St. Edwards tallied 10 hits for six runs. Haubert pitched 4 innings and gave up 4 hits but struck out 3 players. S.Janes came in as a relief for two innings and struck out 2 batters but gave up 3 runs. 

Fort Lewis will have this next weekend off but will hit the road for their RMAC opener against Mesa State on February 28th. The double-header times are set for 12pm and 2pm. Box scores from the past three games are below, just click on the following links.
