Softball Goes 4-0 Over the Weekend vs. Regis

Skyhawks Comeback in Both Games On Sunday For Wins

There's no place like home.

Fort Lewis College, who took last weekend's “home" games to Farmington for a series split against Chadron State, played its first true home games of the season this weekend at Aspen Field on the FLC campus, and the Skyhawks swept Regis four games to none.

“It was a couple of weird games (Sunday)," FLC coach Pam Adams said.

FLC swept Regis on Saturday 5-1 and 3-2, then had to come from behind both games Sunday to win its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader 8-7 and 6-5.

“Both were in the late innings, too," Adams said.

Regis scored a pair of runs off Kassie Haubert in the top of the seventh inning in Game 1, but FLC responded with three in the bottom half to walk off with the win.

With three on and one out, pinch hitter Joanna Young reached on a game-tying error. Another error allowed Brooke Bails to cross the plate with the  game-winning run.

Natalie Janes had a pair of hits, including a solo home run to lead off the second inning, and Chelena Coulston had three RBIs in the Game 1 victory.

Stephanie Janes, Natalie Janes' twin sister, earned the Game 2 victory on the mound, and Haubert added a save to her Game 1 victory.

Haubert also had three hits with a run scored and one run batted in.

Regis scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and FLC tied it with two in the second and one in the third. Regis responded with two in the fifth, and Kayla Bruner answered with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to win it.

FLC is 10-10 overall, 9-5 in the RMAC and 4-0 at Aspen Field.

“You don't know how nice that is," Adams said of actually playing games on their home diamond.

FLC will travel to play No. 8 Metro State next weekend in Denver.

“We've got a tough road trip coming up this weekend," said Adams, whose Skyhawks already have beaten a pair of nationally ranked opponents this year. “We'll have our hands full, but hopefully we'll keep rallying against these tougher opponents. Whatever happens, these girls will be ready for it."
