March 7, 2010. Spartanburg, SC. - The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team showed much improvement in their season opening 8-20 loss to Converse College yesterday afternoon in Spartanburg, SC. Regardless of the outcome, the Hawks' performed at a high level against a good team and left nothing but good things for Coach Kelly Queisser to say after the game. In a phone interview with Coach Queisser, she was commented saying, "WE played phenomenal, absolutley amazing. Our passing was incredible, our defense was tough, our attacks were strong and the overall teamwork and effort went above and beyond expectations."
Fort Lewis came out very slow in the first ten minutes of the game, falling behind quickly, which was expected since the Hawks' haven't been able to practice on an actual playing field yet this year but the Hawks' didn't falter. They would fight on for the remaining 50 minutes and according to Coach Queisser, outplayed Converse in every aspect of the game.
The Skyhawks would take 13 shots on goal for an impressive 46% shot percentage, while Converse shot only 45%. Freshman,
Alyssa Vigil would record 5 goals in her first collegiate game, two of them coming from the 8 meter mark.
Libby Weiner,
Courtney Hancock and Stephanie Pitts all tallied one goal apiece for a team total of 8 goals.
In the net for the Skyhawks was recently added player,
Nic Laros. Coach Queisser was quoted saying, "Nic was on fire in the net", stopping 24 shots for an unheard of save percentage of 54%.
