March 9, 2010. Gaffney, SC. - The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team squared off against the No. 4 team in the nation Monday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C.
When the dust settled from the game at Saints Field, the homestanding Limestone College women's team rolled to a 20-1 victory over Fort Lewis.
The loss was the second in a row for the FLC women's lacrosse team, which fell 20-8 to Converse College on Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C.
Limestone College improved to 5-0.
Fort Lewis fell to 0-2 in its second season of intercollegiate women's lacrosse.
Limestone started quickly, scoring the first goal just 1:24 into the game. Renee Albro scored the first of her three goals.
Chelseas Caiazza scored four goals for the unbeaten Saints. Katie Ilott and Albro each had a hat trick.
Kelly Oterson and Britt Howard scored two goals each.
Fort Lewis' lone goal was scored by Paige Juneau with 4:12 to play in the game.
The Skyhawks were held to only five shots by the nationally ranked Limestone team, which recorded 27 shots.
The Saints held a 13-7 advantage on ground balls and an 18-5 edge on draw controls.
Stephanie Pitts and Alyssa Vigil had two shots each for Fort Lewis.
Limestone used four different goalies in the nonconference matchup Monday.
Fort Lewis will continue its long season-opening road trip with a game against Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C., at 3 p.m. today.
The Skyhawks will play two more games on the current road trip to North Carolina on Thursday and Saturday.
The home opener in Durango is scheduled for April 2.
