April 25, 2010.  Durango, CO. -
The Fort Lewis College softball team split a wild and windy doubleheader with Adams State on Saturday at Aspen Field on the FLC campus.

The Skyhawks, who lost the opener 5-2, rallied in the second game to win 11-10.

“It was a crazy game," FLC head coach Pam Adams said.

“We kept battling. We made the most of our opportunities in the second game," she said.

The Skyhawks led 4-3 before Adams State took an 8-4 lead.

After cutting the lead to 8-7, the Skyhawks took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kayla Bruner and Jordan Willis hit homers for the Skyhawks in the fourth.

Bruner finished the second game with three hits and four RBIs. Amanda Willmon, the team's lone senior, had two hits and two RBIs. Natalie Janes also had three hits for the Skyhawks, who moved to 16-23 overall and 15-18 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Adams State moved to 10-19 overall, 9-18 in the RMAC.

Jayme Fuller pitched four innings and picked up the win. Kassie Haubert pitched three innings and picked up a save.

In the opening game, the long ball killed the Skyhawks, Adams said.

Rebecca Lindquist, Jaycee Lovato and Lizzy Schassow all homered for the Grizzlies in Saturday's opener.

Sarah Lindquist held the Skyhawks to six hits and only one earned run.

Stephanie Janes allowed only two earned runs in the FLC loss.

“We kept battling," Adams said. “That's what I can say about (Saturday's games)."

The two teams play another RMAC doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. today at Aspen Field, the Skyhawks' regular season home finales.
