Truman St. defeats No. 16 Skyhawks 2-1

Men's soccer team continues Missouri road trip Sunday

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Two second half goals propelled unranked Truman St. (2-1 overall) to a 2-1 win over No. 16 Fort Lewis College (1-2) in men's soccer action yesterday.

The Skyhawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead when senior striker Abdel Becerra scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway at 13:30. But Becerra's marker was all the Skyhawks could tally as Truman St. goalkeeper Tyler Knierim made six saves to keep his side in the match.

Andy Chapman turned a through ball from Jonathan Brown into a goal at 48:49 to level the score, while Matt Kimball netted his second goal of the year at 75:13 to give TSU the lead.

The Skyhawks outshot the Bulldogs 15-11, with a 7-5 differential in shots on goal. Junior midfielder Thomas Hoang launched a game-high five shots for FLC, while Becerra and senior defender Kyle Wood had three apiece.

Fort Lewis completes its Missouri road trip at 11 a.m. (MST) Sunday at Columbia College (1-2) in Columbia, Mo. FLC begins its defense of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 at Dirks Field against CSU-Pueblo (0-2) in its home opener.
