Box Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs put a scare into the defending national champions today at Mountain Lion Stadium, but Fort Lewis College still emerged with a 1-0 men's soccer victory.
“It's kind of expected when we've been on the road since Tuesday,” second-year head coach
Oige Kennedy said of the 1-0 result. “We have a lot of tired bodies. We scored 10 goals in three games and didn't concede any, so you've got to be happy with that.”
Junior defender
Fabian Kling scored an unassisted goal on a free kick from the top of the circle at 20:25 to lift the Skyhawks (5-3-0 overall, 4-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to victory.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Nate Bell made six saves for FLC to record his third straight shutout.
Adam Liszewski stopped five shots for the Mountain Lions (1-7-1, 0-4-1), allowing just Kling's goal.
Fort Lewis outshot UC-Colorado Springs 15-11, but shots-on-goal were even at six apiece.
The Skyhawks make only their second appearance on their home pitch, Dirks Field, at 3:30 p.m. Friday in a rivalry game with No. 3 Colorado Mines (7-0-1, 4-0-1). The
Orediggers defeated the Skyhawks 1-0 in a non-conference game in Golden earlier this season.
Fort Lewis also hosts Colorado Christian (1-8-0, 1-4-0) at 3:30 p.m. next Sunday at Dirks Field.
