GOLDEN, Colo. — No. 3 Fort Lewis (15-1 overall, 10-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) rebounded from its first loss of the season to defeat Colorado Mines (7-9, 3-8) 80-64 Saturday night at Lockridge Arena.

With the victory, Skyhawk point guard Abby Jackson became the winningest player in FLC women's basketball history. During Jackson's four-year career, the Skyhawks are 104-13 (.889). The five seniors who played from 2006-10 — Audrey George, Laura Haugen, Katie Mackey, Lauren McCulloch and Allison Rosel — finished their careers with a 103-25 record (.805).

Jackson had one of her most productive games of the year in the victory, scoring 18 points on four-of-nine shooting from the field and two-of-eight shooting from the charity stripe.

Dana Schreibvogel matched Jackson with 18 points, while Erika Richards added 15, missing just one of seven shots and going a perfect three-for-three from behind the arc. Katerina Garcia added 10 points and seven assists.

For the second night in a row, the Skyhawks saw a big second half lead nearly evaporate. Leading by 16 at intermission (43-27) and by as many as 21 midway through the second frame, FLC saw the Orediggers trim the lead to eight points (68-60) following a Tory Langas free throw with 4:54 remaining. Unlike in Friday's 80-79 loss to Colorado Christian, though, the Skyhawks responded. An 8-0 Skyhawk run stretched the lead to 78-60.

Free throw shooting, which crippled FLC at Colorado Christian, was vastly improved down the stretch against Mines. The Skyhawks made all eight of their free throws in the final five minutes and converted 21 of 26 charity shots (.808) during the game.

Mines was led by Brecca Gaffney, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kait Soehner added 14 points, while Courtney Gallo chipped in 10 points and eight boards.

Fort Lewis, winners of the past three RMAC regular season titles, finds itself in unfamiliar territory in second place in league standings. The Skyhawks can change that quickly, as they host RMAC frontrunner Metro State (15-0, 11-0) at 5:30 p.m. Friday night in Whalen Gymnasium.

FLC also hosts Regis (7-8, 6-5) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
