Schreibvogel, Richards lead No. 6 Fort Lewis to 88-54 win over Chadron State

Skyhawk bench dominates, outscoring Eagles 50-21

Box Score

DURANGO, Colo. — Dana Schreibvogel scored 20 points and Erika Richards added 19 as No. 6 Fort Lewis (9-1 overall, 6-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) steamrolled Chadron State (1-10, 1-6) 88-54 tonight in Whalen Gymnasium.

“It was a total team effort,” said seventh-year FLC head coach Mark Kellogg. “We got everybody involved. We were on the attack offensively and defensively and didn't settle for perimeter shots.”

On a night where Schreibvogel was honored in a pregame ceremony for becoming the 11th women's basketball player in school history to score 1,000 points in her career, the senior All-American didn't disappoint, scoring the game's first basket off the opening tipoff and her team's first four points.

She finished the game shooting 75 percent from the field (9-of-12) while dishing off five assists and grabbing four rebounds.

“Dana is in a pretty good groove right now,” said Kellogg.

She hooked up with another All-American, reserve forward/center Jamie Simmons, who transferred to FLC from West Texas A&M this fall. Simmons came off the bench to score 14 points, most of which came in the paint.

“I thought this was the first game they did pretty well playing off each other,” Kellogg said of the Schreibvogel-Simmons one-two scoring punch.

Simmons wasn't the only Skyhawk to come off the bench and add offensive muscle. Richards, a sophomore three-point specialist, scored a career-high 19 points, most of which came off the dribble-drive from the wing. Richards finished 8-of-10 from the field and made her only three-point attempt.

“Our depth was great, Jamie and Erika in particular,” said Kellogg.

All 12 Skyhawks saw action. Jenna Santistevan, who was limited to just nine minutes due to foul trouble, was the lone FLC player to be held off the scoresheet. One of the top defenders in the league, Santistevan did manage to record three blocks, three rebounds, and one steal in limited action.

The FLC bench outscored Chadron State 50-21.

Fort Lewis led 47-27 at intermission and never looked back in the second stanza.

The Skyhawks were deadly from the field, shooting 58.6 percent from the floor (34-of-58).

On the defensive end, FLC forced 32 Chadron State turnovers. The Skyhawks also notched 17 steals and five blocked shots.

The Fort Lewis passing game also clicked, as the Skyhawks registered 21 assists, led by Alex Easterbrook's six helpers.

Sadie Waugh (12 points) and Kattie Ranta (10) were the lone Eagles to score in double figures.

Fort Lewis plays a rare matinee game at 4 p.m. tomorrow in order to let fans celebrate New Year's Eve. The Skyhawks host Nebraska-Kearney (2-10, 2-5) in Whalen Gymnasium.
