COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player
Dana Schreibvogel was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Athlete of the Month for January, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Schreibvogel, a 6-foot junior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, Colo., averaged 17.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.4 blocks per game in nine January games, helping the fourth-ranked Skyhawks to an 8-1 record during the month. She scored 20 or more points four times during the month, while scoring in double figures in all nine games. Schreibvogel, who has five double-doubles this season, notched a double-double at Colorado Christian on Jan. 14 (21 points, 10 rebounds). She leads the league in field goal percentage (.587, 131 of 223) and is second in scoring (17.5 points per game), just 0.1 off the league leader.
Schreibvogel has aided the Skyhawks in extending their school record consecutive home court wins streak to 41 games. She was named RMAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 4, 2011, an honor she has won five times this year. She was named to the RMAC All-Academic second team.
She becomes the second FLC women's student-athlete to receive the honor this season. Soccer goalkeeper
Christine Schmelzle was named the RMAC Athlete of the Month for October.
Schreibvogel is also the second FLC women's basketball player to win the distinction, joining her former teammate
Allison Rosel, who received the distinction last March after guiding the Skyhawks to the NCAA Division II championship game.
Fort Lewis makes its annual two-game pilgrimage to New Mexico this weekend, where it faces Western New Mexico (1-18, 1-14) at 6 p.m. tonight and the suddenly red-hot New Mexico Highlands (10-12, 6-9) at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The Skyhawks easily defeated each team earlier this month in Durango, beating New Mexico Highlands 66-33 on Jan. 7 and Western New Mexico 86-27 on Jan. 8.
