Softball series at Chadron State moved to Sunday/Monday

Poor weather forecasts spur change

CHADRON, Neb. — The two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheaders between Chadron State and Fort Lewis originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have been moved to Sunday and Monday because of poor weather forecasts.

The games on Sunday will begin at noon and Monday's games start at 11 a.m. All four games will be played at the CSC Softball Field.

Fort Lewis is currently tied for sixth in the RMAC with a record of 7-7. The Skyhawks, who haven't played at Chadron State since the 2008 season when the teams played to a 0-0 tie before a snowstorm halted the remaining games, have an overall record of 8-11.

The Skyhawks are one of the top hitting teams in the conference and seven regulars have averages of .300 or better. Kayla Bruner leads the team with a .475 batting average and she's also driven in 19 runs.

Kassie Haubert is Fort Lewis' top pitcher. She owns a 6-4 record and a 5.82 earned run average. She's struck out 27 batters, but has walked 56 more.

The Eagles are 7-14 overall and 6-10 in the RMAC, following last weekend's games at Metro State.

Jamie Mazankowski, a senior from Kearney, leads the Chadron State offense with a blistering .457 average. She's had at least one hit in 17 of 21 games played and she's hitting .500 in 16 RMAC games. Prior to this season, Mazankowski was a career .281 hitter.
