CHADRON, Neb. — Chadron State's Katie Bolin hit three home runs and drove in seven runs in two games to help the Eagles (9-14 overall, 8-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to a sweep over Fort Lewis (8-13, 7-9) today at the CSC Softball Field.

Bolin hit two solo homers in the Eagles' 6-1 win in the opener and blasted a grand slam in Chadron State's 10-5 victory in the nightcap.

“It just came down to consistency,” said first-year FLC head coach Kira Zeiter. “They didn't really outhit us. They just managed to string some hits together and push some runs across.”

Chadron State never trailed in the first game and got on the board quickly when Bolin hit a solo home run to left centerfield in the first inning. The senior from Kearney provided the Eagles' next run in the bottom of the third when she took the first pitch of the inning over the centerfield wall.

The Eagles scored two more runs later in the inning when Jamie Mazankowski and Katie Londo scored after singles from Katelyn McBeth and Nikki Ritzen.

Bolin scored again in the bottom of the fifth after she swiped home when Fort Lewis' catcher threw to second while trying to throw out Brittany Chacon for the third out. Chacon was called safe and scored on the next play when Amy Schartz singled to right.

Chadron State's Kate Pinder (4-8) only allowed two batters to get past second base while earning the complete game win. She allowed five hits and struck out four.

Fort Lewis' Destinee DeHerrera hit a solo homer in the fifth – her first long ball of the season – to spoil Pinder's shutout bid.

Kassie Haubert (6-5) allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks to take the loss.

Things didn't start as well for Chadron State in the second game. Fort Lewis' Kamali'i Peneku hit a grand slam in the top of the third (her second tater of the season) and Natalie Janes added an RBI single to give the Skyhawks a 5-0 advantage.

However, it didn't take long for CSC to get back in the game. McBeth led off the bottom of the third with a single and Danielle L'Argent followed with one of her own. Angela Jay then drew a walk to load the bases and Bolin did the rest with her shot over the wall in right. One batter later, Christina Lewis, who earned the win after scattering nine hits and striking out three batters, tied things up with a solo home run.

After the teams traded scoreless fourth innings, the Eagles put three on the board in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game away.

While Bolin's grand slam was the big hit, several other Eagles had nice days at the plate. McBeth had two hits, including a solo home run, Schartz and Mazankowski provided RBI singles and Lewis helped her cause pitching by driving in two runs.

Peneku, Cierra Walters and Jordan Willis each had two hits in the second game for FLC, which amassed nine hits off of Lewis (5-2).

Alyse Harris (2-6) allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks to take the loss for the Skyhawks. Stephanie Janes gave up the final two runs in one inning of work.

The two teams play another doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at the CSC Softball Field.
