PUEBLO, Colo. —
Dana Schreibvogel scored 27 points to lead No. 6 Fort Lewis (27-2) to an 80-65 win over Colorado Christian (18-10) in the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout women's basketball tournament tonight at the Colorado State Fairgrounds Events Center.

The Skyhawks advance to the RMAC Shootout championship, where they'll face No. 10 Metro State (27-1) at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. The Roadrunners, RMAC regular season champions, defeated Adams State (20-8) 48-37 in overtime earlier in the day.

Schreibvogel, who was named RMAC Player of the Year on Wednesday, was particularly strong in the first half, scoring 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She narrowly missed her career high of 28 points, set three times earlier this season.

"In the first half, she played like an MVP-type of kid," said sixth-year FLC head coach Mark Kellogg, who has guided his squad to the RMAC championship game for the second year in a row.

While Schreibvogel staked the Skyhawks to a 42-26 lead at the half, CCU standout Christina Whitelaw was limited to just six points while playing much of the game in foul trouble.

"When she's not on the court, it certainly changes their dynamic," Kellogg said of the player who leads the nation in steals and was named RMAC Freshman of the Year and RMAC Defensive Player of the Year Wednesday.

Fort Lewis made a point to pound the ball inside to Schreibvogel and center Jenna Santistevan (11 points, seven rebounds in just 18 minutes due to foul trouble).

"We like to work it inside and back out," Schreibvogel said of FLC's offense. "It's nice when our outside shots are going in, but when they're not, we go back inside."

Fort Lewis struggled with perimeter shots most of the night, making just 2-of-15 treys (13.3 percent).

Inside the arc, though, FLC went 26-of-51 (51 percent).

"We were relaxed and making good shots," Kellogg said of his team's performance on shorter shots.

Colorado Christian was led by Stephanie Allen's double-double (18 points, 14 rebounds). Mallory Lowe (13 points) and Brittany Long (10) also scored in double digits.

Aside from Schreibvogel and Santistevan, no other Skyhawk scored in double figures. FLC's starting backcourt tandem of Abby Jackson and Ashley Kuchar finished with nine points apiece.

Kuchar got out to a big start, combining with Schreibvogel for FLC's first 15 points. She admitted that she is playing with a lot of confidence after scoring 14 points in a quarterfinal win over Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday.

"It's always nice to come into a game with confidence," she said. "It's fun. It's where you want to be."

Tomorrow afternoon's matchup, which will be broadcast live on the Altitude 2 television network as well as KIUP (930 AM and www.radiodurango.com), gives the Skyhawks a chance to do something they've never done: win the RMAC Shootout.

"We're excited for Metro," said Kellogg. "It's probably the matchup most people wanted to see."
