The Mustangs scored 10 runs on 12 hits in the opener and bashed five home runs. Aimee Vasquez went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a pair of round trippers, while Bri Robles (12-14) allowed just two runs on eight hits.

The Skyhawks did manage to chase WNMU starter Arriel Smith from the second contest in just 2.2 innings, rocking her for 10 runs on 12 hits. Destinee DeHerrera did much of the damage for the Skyhawks, driving in four runs and going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

“The highlight of the day was the third inning of the second game, when we scored eight runs on seven hits,” said first-year FLC head coach Kira Zeiter.

Alyse Harris (2-12) surrendered 22 runs on 20 hits in 3.2 innings of work for Fort Lewis.

The Skyhawks conclude their 2011 campaign this coming weekend, when they host Colorado State-Pueblo (19-22, 18-18). Games are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.
