DURANGO, Colo. — Regis (21-14 overall, 15-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) used two late-game rallies to sweep a softball doubleheader from Fort Lewis (10-17, 9-13) Friday night at Aspen Field. The Rangers won the opener 2-0 and the nightcap 4-3.

In the first game, FLC's Kassie Haubert (8-7) was just four outs away from throwing the second no-hitter in school history before surrendering her first hit with two outs in the top of the sixth. After retiring the first two batters and walking the third, RU's Natalie Adami, she gave up back-to-back RBI doubles to Nikki Haberkorn and Bianca Holley — the only two runs that would be scored in the game.

Haubert finished the game giving up just those two doubles and walking four while striking out three Rangers.

The Skyhawks tried to rally in the bottom of the sixth with a walk by Jordan Willis and a single by Kayla Bruner, but couldn't scratch out a run.

Both teams went 1-2-3 in the seventh.

Holley (14-5) threw seven shutout innings for the Rangers, striking out four and giving up just five hits.

Baserunning errors nullified several FLC scoring chances. After singling in the second, Bruner was called out on a stolen base attempt after leaving first base early. Natalie Janes led off the fifth with a single up the middle, but was thrown out at the plate after hesitating between third and home on a double down the right field line by Destinee DeHerrera. After walking and taking second on a wild pitch in the sixth, Willis was thrown out at third by Holley after being caught between no-man's land on a grounder by Chelsea Rodrighez.

In the nightcap, the Rangers again rallied late, this time from a 3-1 deficit. They trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Shannon Massine led off with a triple and came around on ground out by Sara Baumberger.

Holley ended up on second in the top of the sixth when she led off when her fly ball down the right field line bounced off of the glove of FLC's Kamali'i Peneku for a two-base error. Keala Pi'imanu Bertulfo pinch ran for Holley and stole third. Two batters later, she scored the tying run on a single by pinch hitter Alisa Heronema. After Skyhawk starting pitcher Alyse Harris (2-7) was lifted for Haubert with one out in the frame, Amber Aragon-Autobee singled through the left side to plate the go-ahead run.

Peneku and Joanna Young singled for Fort Lewis in the bottom of the sixth, but the Skyhawks couldn't push the tying run across.

Haberkorn (7-8) induced three ground balls in the seventh to wrap up the complete-game victory for Regis. She allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out six.

The evening's only homer came when FLC's Chelsea Rodriguez blistered a line drive over the centerfield fence to lead off the third — her fifth bomb of the season. The Skyhawks had a chance to push across another run in the inning after Bruner walked, stole second and advanced to third on a long fly out by Hayley Bolyard. After Regis fumbled around the relay throw to third, Bruner tried to take home, but was thrown out at the plate.

In earlier action at Aspen Field, Mesa State (15-14, 13-11) took a twin bill from RMAC-leading Colorado Mines (23-16, 18-7), winning 7-1 and 2-1. Maverick pitcher Sara Jordan (10-6) won both games and hit a grand slam in the opener.

The RMAC pod play continues Saturday at Aspen Field. Regis and Mesa State play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by Colorado Mines and Fort Lewis at 3 and 5 p.m.
