DURANGO, Colo. — No. 8 Fort Lewis (16-2 overall, 13-1 in the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) never trailed as the Skyhawks defeated Adams State (6-12, 5-9) 83-52 tonight in Whalen Gymnasium.
Five Skyhawks scored in double figures in a balanced offensive attack.
Erika Richards came off the bench to lead the way with 19 points, while
Dana Schreibvogel (15),
Jenna Santistevan (12),
Stephanie Beeman (10), and

Fort Lewis, which has been plagued by turnovers for most of the season, committed just 12 miscues.
“We worked on that all week long,” said seventh-year FLC head coach Mark Kellogg.
The Skyhawk defense was superb for most of the game, forcing 29 Adams State turnovers while recording 20 steals and five blocked shots. Garcia, one of the shortest Skyhawks, had four blocks and four steals.
Jamie Simmons added five steals.
Fort Lewis also held the Grizzlies to 34.9 percent shooting from the field (15 of 43) and 25 percent from behind the arc (two of eight).
Beeman hit a trio of three pointers in the first half to help FLC build a 41-22 halftime lead. As a team, the Skyhawks shot an efficient 48.1 percent from the field (26 of 54).
Adams State was led by Caitlin Boal, who had 16 points and six rebounds. Keyondra White added 13 points.
The Grizzlies won the rebounding battle by a 32-29 clip.
Fort Lewis concludes its three-game homestand next weekend when it hosts Western New Mexico (0-18, 0-15) on Friday and New Mexico Highlands (10-9, 6-9) on Saturday. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. each night.
Saturday's contest also marks the annual Pink Zone night, in which Fort Lewis will sport pink jerseys — a tradition they began three years ago. The Skyhawk will again team with Alpine Bank to raise funds for the Journey of Hope Fund that provides free mammograms to women in the community who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Breast cancer survivors and patients are encouraged to attend the game free of charge.
