PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Fort Lewis bats produced just one run in a pair of losses today at the Grand Canyon University Invitational, as the Skyhawks (1-6 overall) lost to host Grand Canyon 7-0 this morning and to Notre Dame de Namur 11-1 in five innings this afternoon at Stapleton-Pierson Stadium.
In the opener, the Antelopes (4-6 overall) parlayed two Skyhawk errors and two wild pitches in the second inning into six runs on five hits. Five of the runs were charged to FLC starter
Stephanie Janes (0-2), who lasted just 1.1 innings, but allowed just three earned runs, three hits, and one walk. Reliever
Alexis Villegas got FLC out of the inning, but threw a pair of costly wild pitches.
Grand Canyon's Kelsey Barak delivered the big blow with a two-out, two-run triple to right field to stretch the lead to 6-0.
Villegas worked 4.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs – neither of which was earned – and seven hits.

Fort Lewis freshman shortstop
Myndee Thompson had two of the hits against Raica, finishing 2-for-3.
“That team was strong,” second-year FLC head coach
Kira Zeiter said of Grand Canyon.
Big innings also factored into the second game. Notre Dame de Namur (4-2 overall) pushed six runs across in the first frame and five more in the third to cruise to an 11-0 win in a game shortened by the eight-run rule.
Fort Lewis freshman starter
Olivia Bergman (0-2) recorded just one out while facing six batters. She allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits and one walk. Janes worked 2.2 innings of relief, allowing six runs (five earned), six hits, three walks and one hit batter. Villegas pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Meggan Craviotto and Kayla Anderson belted two hits apiece for the Argonauts.
Hillary Ruddick (3-1) went four innings and allowed just three hits, one run, and one walk. She also struck out four Skyhawks.
FLC's lone run of the day came off the bat of
Kamali'i Peneku, whose single to center in the fourth pushed across pinch runner
Kaitlyn Bending. Peneku went 2-for-2 in the second game and 3-for-3 on the day.
“We're looking for more consistency throughout the lineup and put more runs across,” said Zeiter. “That's our goal for tomorrow.”
