COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Former Denver Nuggets player and head coach Bill Hanzlik will be part of the broadcast team for this year's RMAC Shootout, the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's men's and women's basketball championships.
For the eighth year in a row, Altitude Sports & Entertainment, a network available in more than six million households throughout the U.S., will air the RMAC Shootout championship games. Live coverage begins with the men's title game at 3 p.m. Saturday on Altitude 2. The women's championship follows at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The RMAC Shootout championships will be played at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in Pueblo.
The men's title game will be re-broadcast on Altitude, the network's flagship station, on Sunday, March 4 at 2 a.m. and noon MST. It will also be shown on Monday, March 5 at 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. MST.
The women's finals will be shown at 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4. On Monday, March 5, the women's championship airs on Altitude at midnight.
Fort Lewis has a chance to play in both championship games. The Skyhawk men (16-11 overall) face Colorado Mesa (15-12) at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow in the men's semifinals, while the 14th-ranked FLC women (23-4) face UC-Colorado Springs (16-12) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the women's semis.
Hanzlik will be the analyst for the men's championship game. He spent 10 seasons in the NBA as a player with the Seattle Supersonics and the Nuggets. In the 1997-98 season, Hanzlik was the Nuggets' head coach. The Notre Dame graduate was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Hanzlik is no stranger to the RMAC. His son, Robby, is a starter for the Adams State men's basketball team. He also served on the Western State College Board of Trustees from 2003-08 and is currently on the Metropolitan State College Board of Trustees. Hanzlik is the CEO of the Gold Crown Foundation.
Dan Karcher will be the play by play broadcaster for the men's championship game. This is Karcher's third year calling the RMAC Shootout. He was also the play-by-play voice of the RMAC Football Game of the Week in 2008 and 2009. Karcher is also the voice of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox minor league baseball team, a position he's had for more than 20 seasons.
Josh Gross and Jeff Storm are the broadcast team for the women's championship. Gross has worked as a play-by-play announcer for a variety of events on Altitude Sports & Entertainment since December of 2006, including last year's RMAC Shootout women's championship game. In 2007, Gross was selected as Best Sports Announcer by the readers of Westword newspaper in Denver.
Storm will be an analyst for the RMAC Shootout for the third time. He was Adams State's women's basketball head coach from 2000-06. Storm is currently an instructor at ASC in the Human Performance and Physical Education department.
Jesse Kurtz will be the sideline reporter for both games for the second time. Kurtz was the sideline reporter for Denver Broncos preseason football games in 2009 and 2010. He is also the sports director at KKTV, the CBS affiliate in Colorado Springs/Pueblo, where he has been named Sportscaster of the Year four times by the Colorado Broadcaster's Association. This past year, Kurtz also won the national Edward R. Murrow award for sports reporting.
During the live broadcast on Altitude 2, stay tuned for a special edition of the RMAC Showcase. This 30-minute episode feature live interviews and trophy presentations after the men's championship and a preview the women's title game.
