14-0 run leads Rangers to 22-8 win over Skyhawks

Regis improves to 7-0 all-time vs. Fort Lewis

Box Score

DENVER — Regis (5-4 overall, 4-1 in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association) scored 14 straight goals to turn a close game into a 22-8 rout of Fort Lewis (4-4, 2-1) yesterday at the Regis Match Pitch.

“It was a rough game,” said FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald. “We played with them for about the first 15 minutes and then we started breaking down in the midfield and Regis caught on fire. They just capitalized on our mistakes. They're a good team, well disciplined, and they played great.”

Fort Lewis fell down 4-1 in the first 10 minutes, but rallied to level the score 13:19 into the first frame on a pair of goals by Kylie Smith and one by Ally Kvidera.

The Rangers responded on a 9-0 run — with goals by nine different players — to close out the first half with a 13-4 lead.

Regis remained hot to start the second stanza, scoring five goals in the first 10 minutes to stretch their lead to 18-4.

The Skyhawks and Rangers each scored four goals in the final 20 minutes.

Abby Kvidera and Smith scored three goals apiece for the Skyhawks.

Monica Gorciak, Melissa Hastie, Kelsey O'Connor, Morgan Taylor, and Carly Wagner each had hat tricks for the Rangers.

Genna Waugh made seven saves for the Skyhawks while allowing 16 goals in 33:44. Shelby Wichkoski played the final 26:16, allowing six goals while making no saves.

Gianna Lombardi made five saves and allowed eight goals for the Rangers to earn the victory.

While the Skyhawks have continued to improve in their two years under MacDonald, the one major hurdle they've yet to clear is to beat Regis in a regular season game (the Skyhawks did beat Regis in an abbreviated exhibition game earlier this season). Regis improved to 7-0 all-time against Fort Lewis.

The Skyhawks hope to get back on the winning track when they travel to St. Charles, Mo., next weekend for games against Lindenwood (6-2, 2-0) at 6 p.m. MDT on Friday and Lees-McRae (1-7) at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday. Friday's game against the Lions pits FLC against the WILA-leading Lions.
