CCU 4, FLC 3
GOLDEN, Colo. — Jackie Sanzalone hit a two-run homer and Genevieve Reyna settled down after a rough first inning as Colorado Christian (33-26) staved off elimination at the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball championships today by beating Fort Lewis (29-24) 4-3 at the Colorado School of Mines Softball Field.
The Skyhawks scored three in the first — two of which came after a
Hayley Bolyard double down the first base line — to grab a quick lead.
FLC's
Kassie Haubert was strong, allowing just seven hits and four earned runs in suffering the loss.
Chelsea Rodriguez went 3-for-3 at plate, collecting half of FLC's base hits.
Sanzalone went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Even after her two-run homer in the fourth, the Skyhawks still clung to a 3-2 lead before Reyna hit an RBI double and Mariah Bledsoe hit an RBI single in the sixth to give the Cougars the lead.
Fort Lewis got two runners on board in the seventh, but couldn't plate the tying run.
The same two teams meet at approximately 4 p.m. today in a winner-take-all game. Both the RMAC postseason championship and an automatic NCAA bid are on the line.
