Box score

DURANGO, Colo.Artur Piperkov scored in the 20th minute as No. 17 Fort Lewis (5-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) defeated Adams State (1-4-0, 1-1-0) 1-0 today at Dirks Field.

Piperkov took a pass from Stephan Engeln on the right flank and drilled a 35-yard bomb that beat ASU goalkeeper Mike Miller. The marker was the first of the year for Piperkov and the first by a Skyhawk defender. Engeln notched his second assist of the season on the play.

But that was it for the Skyhawk offense, which outshot the Grizzlies 14-4 overall and 5-1 in shots on frame. Fort Lewis' best chance to break the game open came when Alberto Capdepon was stopped at close range. The rebound ricocheted to the top of the box on the right side of the goal and Kosta Kordistos sent the second ball right back at Miller.

Skyhawk goalkeeper Ryan Schaul (5-1-1) notched his fourth shutout of the season. He was called upon to make just one save.

Miller (0-1-0) made his first start for the Grizzlies and registered four saves.

Fort Lewis played a depleted roster, with regulars Yannis Becker, Aaron Kloer, Zac Lawrence, and Daniel Wilson sitting out the contest against the Grizzlies. Becker served a one-game suspension after picking up a pair of yellow cards in a 1-1 draw against Colorado Mines last weekend.

The Skyhawks improved to 6-0-0 in their all-time series against Adams State. Today's 1-0 win marked the closest the Grizzlies have ever come against three-time national champion FLC.

Fort Lewis continues its homestand at 3:30 p.m. Sunday against UC-Colorado Springs (1-3-0, 0-1-0). The Skyhawks have dominated the all-time series against the Mountain Lions, owning a 38-5-4 advantage. FLC has won the past 22 meetings against UCCS.
