Men’s Soccer Wins Double Overtime Thriller over Colorado Mines, 5-4

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Trailing 3-1 with 20 minutes left in regulation, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team stormed back to defeat Colorado School of Mines, 5-4, in double overtime Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.
 
The game featured a combined three penalty kicks between the Skyhawks and Orediggers.  Fort Lewis took a 1-0 lead at 15:26 when Maik Brandt converted on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season.
 
Colorado Mines then went on a three goal run.  Richard Garvey tied the game at 16:22 off a header.  Tesho Akindele converted a penalty kick for his 15th goal of the season to give the Orediggers a 2-1 lead at halftime.  Akindele struck against after receiving a cross pass from Baski Baker into the lower right hand corner of the goal at 58:49.
 
The Skyhawks bounced back and quickly tied the game at 3-3.  Artur Piperkov found the back of the net at 69:25 when he took a free kick from 40 yards out.  Jordan Alexander found Tamino Kroeger thirty seconds later to tie the game, 3-3.
 
Less than one minute later at 69:56, the Orediggers took a 4-3 lead on Baker's header.  A handball foul at 87:55 resulted in a penalty kick for the Skyhawks, which Kroeger successfully converted to send the game into overtime, 4-4.
 
After a scoreless first overtime period, Luke Lawrence notched the game-winning goal at 104:14 to give the Skyhawks their ninth win of the season and snap a two game losing streak.
 
The win improved the Skyhawks record to 9-7-1 overall and 6-7-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss drops the Orediggers mark to 10-5-1 overall and 8-5-0 in the RMAC.
 
The Skyhawks doubled the Orediggers shot out-put, posting 31 (12 on goal) to CSM's 15 shots (nine shots on goal).
 
Ryan Pakiesar earned his second win of the season after making five saves in a 104 minutes between the posts.
 
The Skyhawks will play their final regular season game on Sunday at Colorado Christian at 11 a.m.
