Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – After coming off their first loss of the season, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team earned a 52-49 win over Texas Woman's University Saturday afternoon from Stephenville, Texas.
"It was a hard fought game," said Fort Lewis College head women's basketball coach
Jason Flores. "It was a low scoring defensive battle. It's good that we didn't play our best and we still won on the road. That's a region win and a long trip that we split on the road. We're a work in progress. Our ceiling is much higher than what we played today, but I'm still proud of them for battling through some adversity and battling for the win."
The Skyhawks netted only 29.2 percent from the floor (19-of-69), including 3-of-16 from three-point range (3-of-16), but forced TWU into 29 turnovers. The Pioneers fared slightly better than the Skyhawks from the floor, hitting 16-f-52 for 30.8 percent.
Eric Richards paced the Skyhawk offense with 14 points and six rebounds.
Ashley Kuchar added 13 points, four assists and eight rebounds.
Mary Brinton sank 6-of-8 field goals for 13 points. She also added eight rebounds a block.
Christie Groh accounted for four of the Skyhawks seven blocks. She also added four steals, six rebounds and nine points.
TWU's Rebekah Cluley led all players with 15 points. Fort Lewis was out-rebounded by TWU, 50-44.
The Skyhawks (2-1) return to action for a three game home stand, beginning Nov. 29 fo against St. Edward's.
