LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. — Ally Kvidera scored four goals including the game-winner as Fort Lewis (3-1 overall, 2-1 in the
Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association) opened its three-game trek through the Keystone State with a 10-9 win over Chestnut Hill today at Victory Field #1.
“We came from behind. We were down by two goals and had three quick goals from
Jessica Norby and
Ally Kvidera,” said third-year FLC lacrosse coach Kelsey MacDonald. “At the end of the game, we held possession of the ball for the last two minutes. We played hard and smart at the end.”
Chestnut Hill rallied from a 7-6 deficit midway through the second half with three straight goals — from Brianne Timony, Emnorie Keimig and Erica Eaby — to take a 9-7 lead with 14:23 remaining.
With seven minutes left, though, the Skyhawks began their rally. First, Norby scored her first goal on a free position shot to pull FLC within one with 6:59 remaining. Less than a minute later, she scored the unassisted equalizer. Kvidera finished off the Griffins with 4:45 remaining with her fourth goal of the game.
As it did in Saturday's 10-4 win at Adams State, defense again led Fort Lewis.
“
Alyssa Spencer had a great game and 11 saves,” said MacDonald. The freshman goalie improved to 3-1 on the season.
“Again, our defensive unit made some big stops,” she added, citing the play of
Jenna Steele,
Katlyne Duffey,
Amanda Cawker and
Amanda Hoffmeyer. “They all definitely played very well today. Everyone played as a team.”
Brook Wineland scored three goals for the Skyhawks, while
Kylie Smith tallied once.
Abby Kvidera and Jam Vertner each had two assists, while
Ellie Carpenter added a helper.
Timony led all scorers with five goals for the Griffins. Keimig scored twice.
“We did have a little bit of a lull in the middle of the game and started dropping balls and not coming up with 50/50 balls,” said MacDonald.
Fort Lewis peppered CHC goalkeeper Jennifer Delahanty with 28 shots, forcing her to make five saves. Delahanty fell to 0-1 on the season.
Now Fort Lewis sets its sights on West Chester (0-0) for a 1 p.m. (MST) showdown on Thursday. The Skyhawks also face Millersville (0-0) at 11 a.m. (MST) on Saturday.
“We're looking forward to taking on West Chester on Thursday,” said MacDonald.
