On the day before the newest Fort Lewis College graduates celebrate graduation, the FLC Women's Lacrosse team (7-7, 6-4 WILA) celebrated a 16-9 win over Colorado Mesa University (3-10, 3-6 WILA). This was the Skyhawks final home game of the season.
CMU kept the game relatively close through much of the first period, cutting the Skyhawks' lead down to 6-4 at one point. At the half, the Mavericks were certainly within striking distance, down only 10-6.
The Skyhawks were steady, though, and after scoring the final goal of the first period and the first three of the second, they pulled away. The offense peppered the Mavericks with 32 shots for the game, helped by 28 takeaways.
Jessica Norby and
Brook Wineland, with four goals each, accounted for half of the team's goals.
Marissa DiCecco added two assists, while
Alyssa Spencer had ten saves in goal.
Colorado Mesa had three players with two goals each: Kelsey Krebs, Lexie Chavez, and Tayler Lansdown. Goalkeepers Lauren Wells and Kady Herzog shared time in goal, recording nine saves between them.
The win leaves FLC in command of third place in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association standings.
