The final two games of the Fort Lewis College Softball (19-22, 17-19 RMAC) regular season against Colorado Christian University (25-21, 21-11 RMAC) were nearly mirror opposites of each other. After taking the first game 5-2, the Skyhawks fell in the second game by the same score.
The first game was scoreless through four innings until the Skyhawks opened up a five run fifth inning. The Cougars added two runs late in the game, but it wasn't enough. FLC's
Kassie Haubert and
Mariah Stuart both went 2-3 from the plate, while Kassie (7-12) pitched a complete game, notching four strikeouts and the win.
CCU struggled to get much going, with Shelbi Long (2-3) the only player with multiple hits. Genevieve Reyna picked up the loss on the mound.
The second game saw FLC again take the early lead, but this time the Cougars had the answer. CCU stymied the Skyhawks' offense, holding them scoreless through the final six innings. Meanwhile the Cougar offense was running on high gear with 14 hits in the game. Hannah Rapoport, Alyssa Zimmerman, and Kristina Billante each had three hits. The team's five runs, along with pitcher Genevieve Reyna's (6-4) three strikeouts, were enough to take the second game 5-2.
Kaylynn Harmon led the Skyhawk offense, going 2-3.
Victoria Johnson (8-8) had two strikeouts from the mound and took the loss.
The series didn't change the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, leaving Fort Lewis College in the seventh spot going into the RMAC tournament, which begins on May 2.
