2013-14 Fort Lewis Women's Basketball Weekly Game Notes - Jan. 13, 2014
Skyhawk Notes
Not So Enchanting
The Skyhawks were swept last weekend in the Land of Enchantment, falling to New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico. The losses mark the first time since 1987 Fort Lewis lost both games in the same road trip.
Â
Book Smart
Six Skyhawk women's basketball student-athletes were named to the 2013-14 RMAC All-Academic Team. Senior guard
Ashley Kuchar was voted the Women's Basketball Academic Player of the Year. Earning Honor Roll accolades are
Erika Richards,
Christie Groh,
Mary Brinton,
Kylie Santos and Megan Prins.
Â
1,000th Point Club
Erika Richards became the 12th member of the FLC women's basketball 1,000th point club. Richards netted her 1,000th point on Jan. 3 against Chadron State. She leads the team and ranks eighth in the league in points per game with 15.5. She also ranks in the RMAC top 10 in field goal percentage (10th, 41.0%) and free throw percentage (6th, 85.5%).
Â
956 and Counting
Not only is she the RMAC Academic Player of the Year, but
Ashley Kuchar is only 44 points shy of joining teammate
Erika Richards in the 1,000th point club.
Â
Home Sweet Home
The Skyhawks are looking to expand their one game winning streak in the series against Regis and Metro State to two games. Fort Lewis dropped both road games last year in the front end of the conference season, but won both games the second time around at home.
Â
Streaks
Regis is on a one-game losing streak but has won two of their last three games. Metro State, which also lost both New Mexico road games two weekends ago, is on a two game winning streak.
Â
Tied for Sixth
The Skyhawks are in a four-way tie for sixth place in the RMAC standings (4-5). They are joined by Colorado Christian, Metro State and UC-Colorado Springs. However, the Skyhawks are only a half game out of fifth place (Western State, 5-5) and one game behind fourth place Regis University (5-4).
