Ashley Kuchar entered tonight's game against Metropolitan State University of Denver needing 20 points to bring her career point total to 1,000, and she netted exactly 20 points to help the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team to a 78-57 home win over the Roadrunners.
The win marked the Skyhawks second straight victory as they improve to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Metro State moves to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in the league.
Kuchar went to the line for two free throws with 3:32 left in regulation and netted both shots for her 19
th and 20
th points of the game. The free throws gave the Skyhawks an 18 point lead.
Kuchar's 20 points were a game high, as were her seven assists. She made 6-of-10 field goals (3-of-4 three-point field goals) and all five free throw attempts.
Erika Richards, who recorded her 1,000
th career point earlier this month, added 15 points and five assists. She netted all eight free throw attempts as the Skyhawks shot 22-of-26 from the free throw.
Christie Groh made 4-of-6 field goals and all five free throws for 13 points to round out the Skyhawks scoring in double figures.
The Skyhawks out-rebounded Metro State by 13 (41-28).
Kaile Magazzeni pulled down a game high eight rebounds to go with her eight points, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.
As a team, the Skyhawks shot a season best 57.1 percent from the floor (24-of-41), and made 8-of-13 three-pointers (61.5 percent).
Metro State scored 17 points off of the Skyhawks 17 turnovers, while FLC netted four points off of MSU's nine turnovers.
The Skyhawks, who led by as many as 25 points, held Metro State to 32.8 shooting percentage (20-of-61), and only one three-point field goal (1-of-12).
The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado Christian Friday night and Colorado Mines Saturday night. Friday's game will start at 6 p.m., and Saturday's game will tip off at 5 p.m.
