Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Facing the eleventh ranked team in Division II by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks fell to nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines Saturday night at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo.

The Skyhawks ( 12-5, 9-4 RMAC) never held a lead in the first half but trailed by only two points at the break, 38-36.  Fort Lewis came out strong offensively in the first half, netting 11-of-22 field goals and 4-of-8 from three-point range.

A second half slump proved detrimental to the Skyhawks as they were out-scored by 16 points, 50-34.  The Orediggers (15-2, 11-2 RMAC) opened the second half with a 19-5 run and held Fort Lewis without a field goal for almost the first five minutes of the half.

FLC netted 11-of-31 field goals in the second half (35.5 percent) to finish the game making 22-of-53 for 41.5 percent.  Conversely, the Orediggers made 32-of-52 field goals for a 61.5 percent clip, and out-rebounded the Skyhawks by 18, 37-19.  The Skyhawks 19 caroms are a season low.

"We had the lull to start the second half," said Fort Lewis College associate head men's basketball coach Bob Pietrack. "They're too good of a team to have a lull against. Because they dominated the boards, they dominated the game. Give them the credit -they dominated the rebounds which led to the win."

Alex Herrera and Wes McKenzie shared team high honors with 15 points each.  The Skyhawks missed only two of 21 free throws, led by Herrera who made 7-of-7 and McKenzie who made 6-of-6.

Six Orediggers scored in double digits, including all five starters.  Brett Green recorded a game high 19 points.

The Skyhawks will play host to Adams State on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
