Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. — After holding a two point lead at halftime, 29-27, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team came out strong in the second half, outscoring Colorado School of Mines 46-33 in the second half to earn a 75-60 win Saturday night at Lockridge Arena. The win was the Skyhawks 10
th of the season as they improve to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
"We knew offensively we had to do a couple things differently based on how they were playing us," said Fort Lewis College head women's basketball coach
Jason Flores. "We had really good execution tonight. What hurt us last night at Colorado Christian didn't hurt us tonight. We outrebounded a really good rebounding team and then held them to a low shooting percentage. It's a credit to our players after bouncing back after an emotional loss from last night; they did great."
The Orediggers' last lead of the game came with 12:22 remaining in regulation when they held a 37-36 advantage.
Kaile Magazzeni then scored two of her 12 points of the game that sparked a 17-4 run by the Skyhawks. The Skyhawks largest lead of the game was 19 points that came with 1:22 left in the game.
Christie Groh made 5-of-8 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws to lead all scorers with 17 points. She also pulled down a game high nine rebounds.
Erika Richards netted all nine of her free throw attempts as part of her 16 point, five-assist performance.
Ashley Kuchar added 14 points to round out the Skyhawks four players in double digits.
Fort Lewis netted 23-of-53 field goals for 43.4 percent and held CSM to a 37.7 shooting percentage (20-53). They also held a 37-30 rebounding advantage and dished out 15 assists to their 13 turnovers.
Allie Grazulis led CSM with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Skyhawks return home Feb. 1 to play host to Adams State. Tip-off at Whalen Gymnasium is slated for 1 p.m.
