Skyhawk Notes
Two of the Skyhawks four conference losses this season have come against nationally ranked opponents - No. 4 Metro State and No. 11 Colorado Mines.
The Skyhawks rank in the top 3 in the conference in 15 different categories, including assists per game (2nd, 15.6), blocked shots per game (2nd, 4.8), fewest fouls (2nd, 323), 3-point field goal percentage (43.0), and total rebounds (3rd, 640).
Fort Lewis is out-scoring their opponents by 10.7 points per game. They are averaging 87.9 points per game and allowing 77.2 points per game.
The Skyhawks hold a 32-12 advantage over Adams State when playing in Whalen Gymnasium.
The Grizzlies lead the conference in steals per game with 10.2.
Alex Herrera ranks 3rd in the FLC record books with 175 blocked shots, 11th in free throws (257), and 18th in rebounds (505). He is only 132 points away from joining the 1,000th point club.
In only his second season with the program, senior guard
Nick Tomsick has dialed in from long distance 107 times, ranking him 16th all-time in the career record books. He is averaging 2.8 made 3-point field goals this season, and shooting at a 44.8 percent clip.
Herrera has earned four RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors: Jan. 13, Jan. 6, Dec. 16, and Nov. 11.
Herrera has posted seven double-doubles this year and 20 in his three years with the Skyhawks.
Herrera has recorded 65 blocks so far this season, and needs 19 more to tie the single-season block record of 84, which he set last year. He is also only 33 blocks away from tying Rich Hillyer's career record of 208 blocked shots.
Herrera leads the league and ranks second nationally in blocked shots per game (4.15) and total blocks (60).
Sophomore guard
Kevin Flohr was named to the 2013-14 RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll. Flohr has a 3.87 GPA in Business Administration.
