2014 Skyhawks Men's Soccer Game Day Notes - Oct. 21LAST TIME OUTTrailing 1-0 at halftime to Colorado State University-Pueblo, Fort Lewis College scored three goals in the second half to earn a 3-1 win Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.
The Skyhawks pummeled 14 shots in the second half, three of which found the back of the net.
Yannis Becker scored his seventh goal of the season when he tied the game at 71:48. Becker dribbled around the defense before firing the ball from 15 yards out past the goalie.
Becker scored the game-winning goal at 79:51. The ThunderWolves committed a foul in the box that led to a penalty kick. Becker took the penalty kick for his eighth goal of the season.
Luke Lawrence found
Cesar Castillo at 86:38 for goal number three of the game.
Fort Lewis posted 24 shots in the game and 13 on goal. Lawrence led both teams with six shots (five shots on goal).
Ryan Schaul made two saves in goal for his seventh win of the season. On Sunday,
Yannis Becker's second half goal tied the game at Regis University, 1-1 and sent the game into overtime. The Rangers would find the back of the net three minutes into the extra period to earn the win, 2-1.
Becker's goal, which came from
Luke Lawrence's assist at 53:52, was his ninth goal of the season. Becker led both teams with nine shots (five shots on goal).
The Skyhawks dominated the Rangers offensively, posting 19 shots (nine shots on goal) to RU's six shots (three shots on goal).
IN THE CLASSROOMFour Skyhawks earned RMAC All-Academic accolades this season. Senior defender
Maik Brandt (3.88 Business Administration) was voted to the first team, while junior goalkeeper
Ryan Pakieser (3.75, Business Administration), sophomore defender
Marcel Enghardt (3.44, Business Administration), and redshirt-freshman
Alex Tillberry (3.88, Exercise Science) were named to the honor roll.
PLAYOFF SCENARIOSWith four games left in the regular season, the Skyhawks only need one win (or a loss by Colorado State-Pueblo) to clinch a spot in the RMAC Tournament. The top two seeds receive a bye in the first round, while seeds #3 and #4 will host seeds #5 and #6 on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
RMAC TOP 10After scoring three goals this past weekend, Becker now has nine goals on the year and is tied for third in the league in goals scored, second in points (23), assists (five) and shots (57).
Tamino Kroeger's five goals are tied for the fifth most in the league this season.
Cesar Castillo has four assists through 14 games. He is tied for fourth in the league in assists.
Ryan Schaul ranks eighth in the RMAC in goals against average (1.35), fifth in saves (36) and fifth in shutouts (2).
SCOUTING COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITYFriday's game will be the first meeting this season between the Skyhawks and Mavericks. CMU is currently in first place in the league standings heading into the home stretch. Their only conference loss was a 3-0 setback at UCCS.
Offensively, the Mavericks are in the lower half of the conference in shots (seventh, 152), points (seventh, 51), goals (seventh, 19) and assists (seventh, 13).
Defensively, the Mavericks are on top of the conference in goals allowed (eight), shutouts (nine) and goals against average (0.55), and fifth in saves (53).
They are also the third highest in fouls (160) and have a league high 31 yellow cards, eight more than the next team.
The Skyhawks have won 10-of-13 meetings with the Mavericks (including one tie) and have defeated CMU all six times when playing at CMU.
SCOUTING MSU DENVERThe Roadrunners and Skyhawks enter this weekend tied in the conference with 18 points (6-4 RMAC record). Fort Lewis fell to MSU Denver earlier this season at home, 3-2 in overtime.
The Roadrunners are second in the league in assists (20), third in shots (209), fourth in points (72) and goals (26), fifth in goals allowed (19), and sixth in the goals against average (1.42).
Fort Lewis is 32-21-4 all-time against the Roadrunners and 13-10-2 at MSU Denver.
