2014 Skyhawks Men's Soccer Game Day Notes - Oct. 28RMAC ClinchersDespite falling 1-0 at Colorado Mesa Friday night, the Skyhawks clinched a spot to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Skyhawks are currently tied for fifth place in the league standings with UCCS (21 points). FLC could finish the regular season as high as second place and as low as sixth place.
Last Time Outat Colorado MesaThe tenth-ranked team in the country held the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team scoreless Friday night under the lights at Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colo. Colorado Mesa University defeated the Skyhawks, 1-0.
The game featured seven yellow cards, six of which went against the Mavericks. The Skyhawks played 11 v 10 for the final 36 minutes after a CMU player received a red card.
Fort Lewis outshot the Mavericks, 18-8. Both teams registered eight shots on goal.
Defender
Maik Brandt led both teams with six shots. Three of them landed on goal.
Ryan Schaul made six saves in 56 minutes before leaving with an injury.
Niall Burdon recorded one save in the final 33 minutes.
at MSU DenverThe Fort Lewis College men's soccer team outshot MSU Denver 20-7 Sunday afternoon on their way to a 2-1 overtime win at Regency Athletic Complex. The win improves the Skyhawks record to a 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners move to 10-5 on the year and 7-5 in the league.
Eleven of the Skyhawks 20 shots landed on goal, including
Luke Lawrence's game-winning goal at 1:38 in the first overtime period.
Elliot Prost made a long pass into the box before Lawrence finished for his fifth goal of the season.
Lawrence's goal was his third game-winning goal of the season.
Becker led both teams with seven shots (four shots on goal). Lawrence added six shots (two shots on goal).
Junior goalkeeper
Ryan Schaul played all 91:38 minutes between the posts. He stopped one of two shots on goal by the Roadrunners.
In the ClassroomFour Skyhawks earned RMAC All-Academic accolades this season. Senior defender
Maik Brandt (3.88 Business Administration) was voted to the first team, while junior goalkeeper Ryan Pakiser (3.75, Business Administration), sophomore defender
Marcel Enghardt (3.44, Business Administration), and redshirt-freshman
Alex Tillberry (3.88, Exercise Science) were named to the honor roll.
RMAC Top 10Yannis Becker's 66 shots this season rank him on top of the league charts. His 10 goals this season are the second most in the league, as are his assists (five) and points (25).
Cesar Castillo has four assists through 16 games. He is tied for seventh in the league in assists.
Luke Lawrence is also tied for seventh in the league in game-winning goals (two).
Ryan Schaul ranks eighth in the RMAC in goals against average (1.33).
Scouting Colorado School of MinesThe last time the Skyhawks and Orediggers met on the field was Oct. 12 on Dirks Field. CSM won the match, 1-0.
The Orediggers rank second in the RMAC in goals allowed (16), goals against average (0.99) and shutouts (five). They are third in the league in shots (246), points (81), goals (30), and assists (21).
Scouting Colorado ChristianFort Lewis recorded a 2-1 win at Colorado Christian on Sept. 19 in their first meeting of the season with the Cougars.
CCU enters the weekend 5-11 overall and 2-10 in league games. Both of their RMAC wins this season have come against Adams State University.
Luke Burgard leads the team with six points (three goals), 34 shots and 13 shots on goal. Defending the goal is Brandon Eide, who has stopped 85 of 118 shots on goal. He owns a goals against average of 2.41.
