FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – November 29, 2014 – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team fell to the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon in Flagstaff, Ariz. The 61-43 setback is an exhibition loss for the Skyhawks and does not count against their record. The game does count for the Division I Lumberjacks as they improve to 3-3 on the year.
"We scheduled this game as the third against a Division I team to hopefully prepare us for the rigors of the conference season," said Fort Lewis College head coach
Jason Flores. "Playing Division I teams can only make us better, and it helped us last week on the road at ENMU. Now we go on the road again against two top tier teams in the conference and hopefully we are road tested. We started well but unfortunately they played with a desperation of knowing it was a regular season game for them and we let our guard down. As long as we learn from our mistakes and turn that around it will hopefully be beneficial."
Kylie Santos led the Skyhawks offensively with nine points.
Mary Brinton chipped in seven points, two rebounds and a blocked shot.
Skylyn Webb pulled down a team high eight rebounds and dished out a team high three assists to go with her two points.
Kaile Magazzeni added five points, two blocked shots and four rebounds.
Fort Lewis was held to a 29.3 shooting percentage (17-of-58) and attempted only six free throws, sinking three of them. They were limited to six made three-pointers on 20 attempts (30 percent).
The Lumberjacks Erikka Banks led all scorers with 16 points.
Fort Lewis will return to regular season action when they open up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season at UCCS on Friday and at Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday.
