Women’s Basketball Falls Short at UCCS, 61-57

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight night in a row, a late rally by the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team fell short as they fell on the road to UC-Colorado Springs Saturday night at Gallogly Event Center, 61-57.

The loss was the Skyhawks second straight road loss, as they fall to 10-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 13-9 overall.  The Mountain Lions improve to 9-13 overall and 8-10 in the RMAC.

"We were close but not good enough tonight," said head coach Jason Flores.  "We need to play better to win those games.  We played hard both nights.  Offensively we didn't have people putting away shots which put a lot of pressure on us defensively both nights.  We just need to make plays."

Fort Lewis, which never held a lead, shot 35.6 percent from the floor (21-59) and only 17.6 percent from long range (3-17).  One of the three three-point field goals came from Ashley Kuchar who netted a three with 24 seconds left in regulation to cap off a 12-4 run by the Skyhawks and get them within two points of UCCS, 59-57.  The field goal proved to be the last for FLC as UCCS hit two free throws to seal the win, 61-57.

Erika Richards led the Skyhawks in scoring with 17 points on 7-of-15 field goals and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.  The Skyhawks 57.1 shooting percentage from the free throw line (12-of-21) marked a season low.

UCCS' Abby Kirchoff led all scorers with 18 points.  The Mountain Lions recorded 22 points off of the Skyhawks 16 turnovers.

Fort Lewis will remain on the road next weekend in their four game road swing, playing at Metro State next Friday night and at Regis on Saturday.  Friday's game will start at 5 p.m. at the Auraria Events Center, followed by Saturday's 3 p.m. game at Regis Fieldhouse.
