Skyhawk Notes

After losing two games on the road this past weekend, the Skyhawks will look to bounce back as they play their third and fourth straight games on the road at Metro State and Regis.  Fort Lewis swept both teams at home earlier in the season on Jan. 17 and 18.

Regis has won four of their last five games and they are the second highest scoring team in the league (75.0 points per game), with the second highest scorer in the league in Tae'lor Purdy (22.7 points per game).  Purdy is one of three players in the league to average a double-double (10.2 rebounds per game).  The Rangers, who score an average of 75 points per game, ranked 13th in the RMAC in scoring defense, giving up 71.9 points per game (the Skyhawks rank fourth in the league in scoring offense with 71.1 points per game).

Before suffering a loss to Regis on Saturday night, Metro State won five straight games.  The Roadrunners won three straight games heading into the first match up of the season against Fort Lewis on Jan. 18 before FLC snapped the winning streak.

The Roadrunners are the 11th highest scoring team in the league, but rank second in scoring defense (60.0 points per game).

The Skyhawks pulled down a season high 58 rebounds on Friday at CSU-Pueblo.

The Skyhawks lead the league in blocked shots per game (3.7) and rank 28th overall in NCAA Division II in assists per game (16.3).  The Skyhawks are out-scoring their opponents by 4.5 points per game and they hold a 4.3 rebounding margin.

Erika Richards is ranked in several categories in the Skyhawks career record books, including scoring (8th, 1,187 points), free throws (9th, 239), 3-point field goals (8th, 132), and made field goals (10th, 408).

Ashley Kuchar has netted 1,106 career points, ranking her 9th in the record books.  She is also ranked 10th in steals (173), 11th in blocked shots (52), 3rd in 3-point field goals (188), 7th in assists (304) and 12th in made field goals (386).

In just two seasons with the program, Mary Brinton ranks 14th in Skyhawks career record books with 49 blocked shots.

Six Skyhawk women's basketball student-athletes were named to the 2013-14 RMAC All-Academic Team. Senior guard Ashley Kuchar was voted the Women's Basketball Academic Player of the Year. Earning Honor Roll accolades are Erika Richards, Christie Groh, Mary Brinton, Kylie Santos and Meagan Prins.

Mary Brinton recorded a career high six blocks against Regis University on Jan. 17, just one block shy of tying the school record of seven.  Brinton, who earned the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award after her performances against Regis and Metro State, ranks second in the conference in blocked shots per game (1.67).  As a team, the Skyhawks lead the RMAC in blocked shots, recording 3.9 per game.

Ashley Kuchar and Erika Richards each joined the 1,000th point club in January 2014.  They became the 12th and 13th Skyhawks to score at least 1,000 points.
