Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Heading into the home stretch of the regular season, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team entered today's game at Regis University just one game behind the Rangers in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings. The Rangers handed the Skyhawks an 81-71 setback for a two game separation.
"They got into a rhythm offensively and they were tough to guard tonight," said Fort Lewis College head coach
Jason Flores. "We battled back and then Tae'lor (Purdy) hit a couple big shots. She hit those shots and then it turned the momentum their way. We didn't' have an answer for her (Purdy) tonight. I'm proud of us. We battled back and it's great that we have that in us."
Christie Groh led the Skyhawks with 24 points and nine rebounds. Groh made 10-of-18 from the floor, 2-of-3 from three-point range and both free throw attempts.
Ashley Kuchar followed with 18 points, four assists, six rebounds and two steals.
Four Regis starters scored in double figures led by Purdy's game high 33 points. She added 11 rebounds and made 10-of-21 field goals, 5-of-9 three-point field goals and all eight three throw attempts.
Each team pulled down 39 rebounds but Regis scored 19 points off of second chance points, compared to Fort Lewis' 13 points.
The Skyhawks shot 36.1 percent in the first half but fared better in the second half, netting 53.3 percent to finish the game making 29-of-66 from the floor for 43.9 percent. The Rangers were solid from long range, making 11-of-23 for 47.8 percent. They finished the contest making 46.8 overall from the floor (29-62).
The Skyhawks will play their final games of the regular season next weekend at home. Fort Lewis will play host to Western State Friday night at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, they will host undefeated and national ranked No. 2 Colorado Mesa on senior night at 5:30 p.m.
