2014 Skyhawk Softball Weekly Notes - Feb. 26, 2014

Skyhawk Notes

The Skyhawks will play their first home games of the season this weekend when they host a pod against Adams State and Western New Mexico.  FLC will play at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Aspen Field.

Victoria Johnson was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week this past week for her performance at Regis University.  Johnson went 1-1 in the circle against the Rangers, earning the Skyhawks lone win in the four game conference opening series. All six runs scored on Johnson over the weekend were unearned runs, giving her an earned run average of 0.00 for the weekend.  She finished the series working 12 innings and allowing 11 hits while fanning six batters.

The Skyhawks split their four game series against Western New Mexico last year.  All four games were played at Aspen Field.  FLC faced Adams State in two games last year in a pod hosted by the Grizzlies.  The Skyhawks went 1-1 against ASU in the regular season before falling to the Grizzlies in the RMAC Tournament.

Senior Chelsea Rodriguez tied the career record for home runs last week at Regis.  She is tied with Jenna Peters with 33 career homers.

Mariah Stuart leads the league in fielding percentage.  She has a 100% fielding mark with 100 putouts and one assist.

Fort Lewis is 5-0 when leading their opponent after the second and third innings, and they are 3-1 when they out-hit their opponents.

The Skyhawks were picked seventh in the RMAC preseason coaches poll.  Senior third baseman Chelsea Rodriguez, last year's RMAC Academic Player of the Year, was also named to the RMAC preseason team.

Fort Lewis is third in the league in batting average (.316) and seventh in pitching (5.40 earned run average).
