Skyhawks Split Doubleheader at BHSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPEARFISH, S.D. – Fort Lewis College extended their winning streak to three games Monday afternoon after defeating Black Hills State University, 6-2, in game three of the four game series.  The Skyhawks dropped the final game of the series, 5-4.
 
In today's first game of the doubleheader, Victoria Johnson pitched all seven innings.  She allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out one batter.
 
The Skyhawks held a 4-0 shutout lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Yellowjackets scored one run.  FLC added two more in the top of the sixth to seal the win, 6-2.  The Skyhawks scored six runs on 10 hits.
 
Myndee Thompson led the Skyhawks with three hits on four at-bats.  Thompson tallied a double and a home run as she drove in five batters and scored once.  Destinee DeHerrera chipped in two hits and scored three times, while Chelsea Rodriguez hit her second home run of the series.
 
In game two, the Yellowjackets took a 2-0 lead after three innings, but FLC quickly tied the ball game in the top of the fourth inning.  Each team tallied a run in the sixth inning for a 3-3 tie.  The Skyhawks added a fourth run in the top of the seventh inning and headed into the final inning of play with a 4-3 lead, but BHSU found their bats and scored two runs to earn their first win of the season.
 
Katie Watkins worked 6.2 innings in the circle, allowing five runs on eight hits.
 
Adriana Rosthenhausler and Tehenia Telliano each recorded two hits.  Telliano and Peneku each went yard in the final game of the series.  Telliano accounted for two of the Skyhawks three runs batted in and one of the four runs scored.
 
The Skyhawks (10-12, 6-6 RMAC) will return home to play host to Colorado Christian University March 15-16 at Aspen Field.  Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m., followed by Sunday's doubleheader at 11 a.m.
