Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Facing Mercy College for the first time in school history, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team suffered a 10-8 overtime setback at Regis University Saturday morning, marking their first loss of the season (3-1, 1-0 RMAC).
"We kind of dug ourselves a hole in the game," said Fort Lewis College head coach Kelsey MacDonald. "We were throwing the ball away at midfield and on the attack were weren't taking smart shots. We had a lot of turnovers, but tat the end of the game we definitely turned on the hustle. "We just couldn't overcome the deficit early on."
The Skyhawks held a 12-8 shots advantage after one half of play. With both teams tied at the break, 4-4, Fort Lewis won six of nine draw controls.
Mercy took an 8-5 lead in the second half before
Ally Kvidera,
Abby Kvidera and
Brook Wineland tied the game in the final eight minutes to send it to overtime.
Mercy scored two unanswered goals against Fort Lewis in the extra periods to hand the Skyhawks a 10-8 loss.
Fort Lewis finished the game outshooting the Mavericks 25-20 and 28-27 in ground balls. Fort Lewis successfully made five of eight clears while Mercy went 14-for-19.
Six different Skyhawks scored at least one goal with
Abby Kvidera and
Marissa DiCecco each notching two goals. DeCecco led the team with three points.
Alyssa Spencer made five saves in 66 minutes in goal.
The Skyhawks will face Rockhurst University at home on Monday, March 17 at 3 p.m.
