Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Four Skyhawks scored at least three goals Monday afternoon as Fort Lewis College defeated the Rockhurst University Hawks 23-1 in women's lacrosse action from Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
The win moves the Skyhawks to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Hawks, who started their women's lacrosse program this season, move to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC.
Ellie Carpenter and
Kathryn Dunn each netted four goals for the Skyhawks. Carpenter recorded three of her goals in the first 16 minutes of the game.
Kylie Smith and
Megan Longtain added three goals apiece.
Ally Kvidera and Dunn also led the Skyhawks with six points each.
Fort Lewis jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. After nearly a 12 minute scoring drought, the Skyhawks added two more goals before Rockhurst prevented the shutout with 2:10 left in the first half. Fort Lewis held a 13-1 lead at the half and added 10 more unanswered goals in the second half.
Amanda Cawker and Longtain combined for seven of the Skyhawks 12 caused turnovers.
The Skyhawks recorded 36 shots to the Hawks nine, and picked up 30 of the 48 ground balls. They also won 21 of the 26 draw controls, with Carpenter winning a game high seven.
Fort Lewis will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. on Thursday, March 20 to face Albright. They will return home on Saturday, March 22 for a 2 p.m. match against No. 13 Lindendwood.
