Fort Lewis Falls by One to #13 Lindenwood, 7-6

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 2-0 lead against No. 13 Lindenwood University Saturday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field, but would eventually fall to the Lions, 7-6.
 
The loss was the Skyhawks first setback of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season, and second overall (5-2, 2-1 RMAC). 
 
After a 2-0 lead with scores from Ellie Carpenter and Ally Kvidera, the Lions tied the game at 2-2 and then took a 4-2 lead with 7:54 left in the first half.  Jam Vertner cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal at 5:36, and Carpenter knotted the game at 4-4 with only four seconds left in the first half.
 
The Lions struck first in the second half just 32 seconds after the draw.  Marissa DiCecco tied the game with her eighth goal of the season before Lindenwood added two more goals.  With 11:27 left in regulation, Brook Wineland struck goal for the Skyhawks sixth score of the game, but the Skyhawks were unable to add any more goals, falling 7-6.
 
Fort Lewis picked up 15 ground balls to the Lions 11, but LU out-shot the Skyhawks, 18-13.  Lindenwood also won 10 of the 16 draw controls, seven of which came in the first half.
 
Alyssa Spencer made six saves in goal in 60 minutes of action.
 
Fort Lewis will travel to #7 Florida Southern College on Monday, March 24.  Game time is slated for 5 p.m. (MDT).
