Softball Drops Two in Pueblo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The Skyhawks six game winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon at Colorado State University-Pueblo as the ThunderWolves defeated the Fort Lewis College softball team 8-6 before New Mexico Highlands earned a 5-3 win over FLC.
 
"It was a tough day today," said Fort Lewis College head coach Kira Zeiter.  "We will take some time away this week for spring break and refocus for next weekend against Colorado Mines.  We will work toward getting back on the winning streak."
 
Seven Skyhawks recorded eight team hits with Hayley Bolyard recording a game high two hits and two runs scored.  Destinee DeHerrera drove in a team high two runs.
 
Fort Lewis dug a hole early in the game as the Pack scored five runs on six hits in the first inning.
 
Hayley Bolyard put the Skyhawks on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when she hit a single. She advanced to second on an error and hit third base on a passed ball before scoring on a passed ball.  With the bases loaded, Destinee DeHerrera drew a walk that brought in Mariah Stuart to cut the lead to 5-2. 
 
New Mexico Highlands added three more runs in the bottom of the second, but Bolyard scored again for Fort Lewis, crossing home plate for the second time in the game on a passed ball.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Skyhawks hit two doubles to score three runs and recorded their third run of the inning on another CSUP passed ball to get within two of the ThunderWolves, 8-6, but the Skyhawks remained scoreless the rest of the game to fall 8-6.
 
The Skyhawks stranded five runners on base, three of which were in the first inning. 
 
Victoria Johnson pitched the first one-third of the ball game, allowing five runs on four hits.  Katie Watkins worked the next 1.1 innings
 
In Sunday's game two against New Mexico Highlands, Fort Lewis took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Chelsea Rodriguez hit a double to center field to score Adriana Rosthenhausler.
 
The Cowgirls answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings for a 5-1 lead.
 
Fort Lewis started a comeback in the top of the seventh as the first three batters recorded a hit.  Rosthenhausler's double to the right field scored Kaitlyn Bending.  Rodriguez recorded the first out of the inning on a sac fly that scored Fundora to bring the Skyhawks within two, 5-3, but FLC was unable to add any more runs.
 
Three Skyhawks recorded two or more hits against the Cowgirls with Rosthenhausler leading the team with three hits, one run and one run batted in.
 
Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and two walks.
 
Kiley Raica worked the first three innings, surrendering three earned runs on five hits.
 
Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado School of Mines March 29-30.
