Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Twenty-seven turnovers committed against the fifth ranked team in the country led to a 16-6 setback for the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team at No. 5 Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. Monday night.

"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half but we had sparks of life in the second half," said Fort Lewis head coach Kelsey MacDonald. "It was too much for us to come back.  We couldn't possess the ball tonight and they capitalized on our mistakes.  They're fast and can score quickly.  We played with them in second half which is exciting for us as a team."

Florida Southern jumped to a 4-0 lead before Jessica Norby received a pass from Ellie Carpenter to put the Skyhawks on the scoreboard with 7:34 left in the first half.  The Moccasins finished the half with four unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead at the break.

The Skyhawks found the back of the net five times in the second half, but fell short to FSC's eight second half goals.  Brook Wineland recorded three goals in the second half while Jam Vertner and Marissa DiCecco each added one apiece.

The Mocs posted 27 shots (25 on goal) to the Skyhawks 16 (10 on goal).  FLC won 14 of the 25 draw controls and committed only 19 fouls to FSC's 34.  The Skyhawks added 14 ground balls and successfully made 14-of-21 clears.

Monday's six goals tied a season low output by the Skyhawks.  The Mocs' 15 goals scored are the most an opponent has scored on FLC this season.

The Skyhawks next match will be Thursday at St. Leo University at 2 p.m. (MDT).
