Fort Lewis Tallies 21 Runs in Sweep over Orediggers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College softball team accumulated 21 runs on Sunday in two wins at Colorado School of Mines, 13-8 and 8-2.  The wins were the Skyhawks third and fourth of the series as they won three of four games against the Orediggers.
 
"We had 36 hits today," said Fort Lewis College head softball coach Kira Zeiter.  "We are proud at how we came back out today and made the adjustments at the plate and brought the bats to life. We stayed calm after the start of the day and stuck to the plan and came out with good results!"
 
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, seven Skyhawks recorded at least two hits with Chelsea Rodriguez posting a game high four hits on five at-bats.  She added three runs and drove in one run.  Adriana Rosthenhausler notched three hits on five at-bats and scored three times.  Myndee Thompson drove in a game high five runs on two hits and scored two times. 
 
Thompson started the scoring spree in the top of the first inning after hitting a three-run home run.  Colorado Mines answered with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.  After three complete innings, the Oredigeers held an 8-5 lead but Fort Lewis would add five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth while holding the Orediggers scoreless in the final four innings to hold on to the 13-8 win.
 
Fort Lewis posted 20 hits in the game, marking the second most hits in school history (program record is 21).
 
Katie Watkins pitched her third win of the season after entering the circle just one out into the game.  Watkins allowed three runs (all unearned) on nine hits.
 
In game two of Sunday's doubleheader, Rosthenhausler, Kamali'i Peneku and Hayley Bolyard each tabbed three hits against the Orediggers.
 
For the second straight game, the Skyhawks jumped to a 3-0 lead after one-half inning.  Fort Lewis held a 7-0 lead after three innings before the Orediggers plated a run in the fourth and fifth innings. 
 
Eight different Skyhawks each scored one run against Colorado Mines.  Tehenia Telliano contributed two of FLC's eight runs batted in.
 
Kiley Raica pitched all seven innings for Fort Lewis, earning her seventh win of the season.  She allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out three batters.
 
The Skyhawks (19-15, 15-9 RMAC) will play six home games next week.  Fort Lewis will host Colorado Mesa April 5-6, followed by a non-conference doubleheader on April 8 against Dixie State.
