Men’s Basketball Ends Season at #1 Metro State in RMAC Tournament, 77-73

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Four Fort Lewis College Skyhawks scored in double digits but the Skyhawks were unable to upset top seed and No. 1 ranked Metro State Friday night at Auraria Events Center in the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
 
After trailing by as many as nine points in the first half, Fort Lewis went on a 12-2 run to take a 19-18 lead in the first half.  Fort Lewis trailed 38-32 at the break after shooting 47.8 percent from the floor (11-23) and 54.5 percent from long range (6-11).
 
Alex Herrera posted 18 points and a team high 10 rebounds to lead the Skyhawks. Herrera made 6-of-9 field goals and 6-of-9 free throws.  He finished the night with three blocks and is only block shy of tying the all-time career blocks record, held by Rich Hillyer (208).
 
Nick Tomsick recorded nine of his 17 points from long range.  He added four assists and a steal after netting 7-of-15 field goals.  Cade Kloster came off the bench to add 14 points.  Kloster made 5-of-8 field goals and 2-of-4 three-point field goals.  Mike Matthews chipped in 10 points, an assist and a steal.
 
The Skyhawks shot a solid 50 percent from the floor as a team (25-50) and 45.5 percent from long range (10-22).    FLC's bench tallied 26 points to Metro State's 11 bench points.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Brandon Jefferson and Nicholas Kay's 20 points.  Jefferson netted 6-of-7 three-pointers and 7-of-10 field goals.  Metro State also shot 50 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from downtown.
 
MSU Denver capitalized on FLC's 15 turnovers, scoring 24 points compared to the Skyhawks eight points off of turnovers.  MSUD dominated in the paint, posting 36 points to FLC's 14, and they added 14 fast break points.
 
The Skyhawks out-rebounded Metro State, 33-28.
 
Fort Lewis ends their season 18-10 overall.  Metro State will face fourth seed UC-Colorado Springs Saturday night in the RMAC Championship game.
