SPEARFISH, S.D. – Five Skyhawks batted .500 or better Sunday afternoon to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a sweep at Black Hills State University. The Skyhawks won game one in six innings, 10-2, and came back from a 5-0 deficit in game two for a 15-9 win.
"The two wins is what we wanted from today," said Fort Lewis College head softball coach
Kira Zeiter. "They were great team wins and we had contributions from everyone. We look forward to continuing the strong offensive performance into tomorrow's doubleheader."

Destinee DeHerrera and
Chelsea Rodriguez each batted .667 in two games, and
Missy Fundora and
Tehenia Telliano both went .500 at the plate.
The Skyhawks started game one of the day with a four runs in the first inning. The first four batters of the game were walked by BHSU. With one out and the bases loaded, Rodriguez and Rosthenhausler scored after
Myndee Thompson reached first on a fielder's choice. DeHerrera then scored on a passed ball and
Kamali'i Peneku grounded out to the pitcher but scored Thompson for a 4-0 lead.
Fort Lewis added four more runs in the top of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead after four innings. Peneku hit a two run homer that scored herself and Thompson. With two outs, Fundora singled to drive in
Jeovanna Rios. DeHerrera drew one of her three walks in the game that scored Fundora for the eighth run of the game.
Black Hills State added two runs in the top of the fifth inning to prevent a shutout, but Fundora and Rodriguez each added a run for the 10-2 run-rule win.
The Skyhawk scored 10 runs on five hits. Fundora, Rodriguez and Thompson each crossed home plate twice, while Peneku accounted for three runs batted in.
Victoria Johnson pitched all six innings, allowed two runs on seven hits and fanned five batters.
In game two, Fort Lewis trailed 5-0 after the first two innings. Thompson flied out to centerfield but drove in Fundora for the Skyhawks first run of the game. Fundora scored the Skyhawks second run of the day when she went yard in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2.
Fort Lewis made their comeback in the top of the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Peneku doubled to score DeHerrera.
Nikki Klepfer grounded out to the second baseman but drove in Thompson. The next batter, Telliano, reached base on an error that scored Rios. With two outs, Rosthenhausler singled that scored Telliano. Rodriguez then added three more runs after she hit her 35
th career home run to drive in three runs to cap off the seven run inning and take a 9-5 run.
The Skyhawks extended their lead to 13-5 after four more runs were scored in the top of the sixth. Fort Lewis' lead was cut to four runs, 13-9, after BHSU crossed home plate four times in the bottom of the sixth. Fort Lewis was able to add two more runs by Telliano and Fundora to end the game with a 15-9 win.
Rosthenhausler led the Skyhawks offense in game two, going 5-for-6 at the plate with four runs batted in and two runs scored. DeHerrera went 4-for-5 with one run batted in and one run scored, while Fundora, Rodriguez and Telliano each posted three hits.
Katie Watkins earned the win after working the final 5.2 innings in the circle. Watkins allowed four earned runs on 11 hits after facing 28 batters.
Rosthenhausler finished the day with six hits, three runs scored, four runs batted in and two doubles. DeHerrera tallied four hits, two runs scored and drove in two runs, while Rodriguez notched four hits on six at-bats, scored four runs, drove in four runs and drew four walks. Fundora added four hits, drove in two runs, and scored five times in the two games.
Fort Lewis will play the final two games of the series Monday morning, beginning at 11 a.m.
